inspirations

For the patterns, Jérémy Gobé is inspired by two corals in particular:

-MONSTRAE (cavernosa), or “star” coral, the analogy of which he discovered with the traditional bobbin lace pattern from Puy-en-Velay called “Point d’Esprit”.

Etymology

Montastraea : starry mountain.
cavernosa : cavity, cave.

Location

Caribbean

Common to abundant in southern Florida, Bahamas and Caribbean.

-DIPLORIA (labyrinthiformis) or “brain” coral, which he associates with the so-called “vermiculated” motif present on numerous monuments (Louvres, Marseille station, etc.).

Etymology

Diploria : be born double or twice.

labyrinthiformis: shaped like a labyrinth, full of detours.

Location

Western tropical Atlantic, Caribbean Sea

Neptune's brain coral is a common species found in most reef environments from 1 to 40 m depth. It is mainly found between 2 and 15 m depth in lagoons and in areas with gentle slopes.
